Final Showcase

While the showcase was taking place, i chaperoned parents and new students from the Exhibition building to Salt. It was a very hard job due to the fact i took single parents up, instead of taking them in a group. However i thoroughly enjoyed the evening as after i finished chaperoning i sat down and looked at students work. I also finished my evening off with playing games, which the games student brought in.

The night was good and fun, we had numerous amount of parents to look at what we had produced.

Rob and I chaperoned, where as sohail, faraz and sajid took pictures of the event, and also recorded footages.
Becky showed the parents and new students the infra-structure that she builded of the digital showcase.
Rob spoke to students and parents about the course and what the course will consist.

We had 2 rooms where everything was spreaded out between media students and games development students. One rooms we had displayes of student work, presentation, moodboards, portfolio and banners.

Whereas in the other room they had TV screens, computers displaying work, portfolios, trailers that they created on 3D Max and their games consoles.

Email from Mel on Posters for Showcase

Hi Josh
Thought i would send you these before phoning you so that when I do
phone we can have a chat and you can see what I am talking about!!!

Overall style - we very much like the style of the image ending in '15'-
(middle attachment) we love the polaroid effect with the graphic work
represented in the middle - we also like the 3d and objects that appear
on the edges of these 'polaroids' they stop the poster from looking
flat. We would like this effect to be reproduced with examples graphics
of student work.

The first image (ending in 14) - we like the 'brass plate' effect at
the bottom - please add this to our banner with the text..

Shipley College :: BND iMedi@ Production

The last image - ending in 16 - we like the 'digital art ' style and the
funky design - interpret as you will!

We like the design of the leaflet that you have already done and would
like this incorporting maybe as a background theme? Please can you get
back to us with an initial design - deadine for completion is Thursday
for first proof?! I need final one to me on Friday - I will speak to you
about this v soon I hope!

The banners will be used at the open day and be on the walls in our base
rooms - in addition they will also appear
I will get all the graphic samples to you on disk - hopefully via Jade!!

Thanks
Debbie

Hi Ben

Thanks for the getting involved with this, it will be a big
help...........here is some info. to help you with your ideas & sizing
etc.

We will also work together on this ALL day Weds - I am still chasing
some students for work from year 1 - but should have all that tomorrow!?

If you work on a TITLE of:- [We said about applying this to a plaque @
the bottom in the middle]
> BND iMedia & Games - Student Work > + the Shipley College logo
[attached + some OPEN DAY jelly bean people]

Work in LANDSCAPE 3ft [36 inches] high X 6ft [72 inches] wide, with a
2/3inch 'bleed' all the way round for printing purposes & to wrap around
the frame work - but we can sort this out on Weds. We are working in
imperial as fabrics still seem to be in this format...........it'll be a
challenge for you though!

For printing purposes it will have to be 100% in size @ 300dpi CMYK -
jpg format - but for on screen production we should be OK working @ 50%
with resolution set @ 600 dpi then increase 2 up when we are ready to
print - It will also HAVE to be CMYK, not RGB, right from the start, so
may have to watch gamma settings for Photoshop, as no doubt they have
not been set on College PC's - but this shouldn't be a major problem.

Attached is the Poster for Marketing & Leaflet designed by 2nd year
Media student - the leaflet in particular has the type of background
that we could apply? See what you think............we'll do more on
Weds.

Cheers

Leaflet..

The whole class decided that we should give some sort of task for Joshua and Sean to do in order to complete there unit. We all decided that we should let them design a leaflet for students to take when they come to visit the open day. We told both that they should keep the theme running through as we all have decided to go through with black and purple neon effect. The product had to be handed in after a week, in order to get feedback in how they could both improve and create a great final product.

This is one of the first idea that josh sent us:
Poster 1:

Poster 2:

As always josh always does more than we ask, which turned out to be a quite a good thing, due to the reason because Sean had problems and wasn't able to hand in any work. After looking at both the leaflets, we then decided which poster is better and how we could improve it. We all choose poster 2 because it was very clear, and fitted in what the brief very well. However we did want few things changing on poster 2 as in have a design on top of the title and change the font of the title in order for people to read.
He changed it and re sent us the final poster.

As you can see Josh has made few mistakes when reading the e-mail. We told him to change the font and he changes the colour, we told him to keep the way the text box was and he changed it to the way leaflet 1 was. We then emailed josh back and told him what we actually asked for and what he had to do.
We also had a meeting with marketing team where they suggested that we had something on the other side of the leaflet so that its not blank and that people don't get bored of just looking at one side.

Josh successfully co mplete this and we all agreed that it was perfect, just what we need for a leaflet.
